It’s been a long time since I’ve gone to Williamsburg. There was a time when I’d frequent the neighborhood, wandering around its streets, browsing various small mom-and-pops and popping into different coffee shops to hang out or read or people watch. I guess as I’m getting older I no longer find the neighborhood as attractive as before. I think my litmus test is basically this: once Whole Foods opens up in the vicinity, the neighborhood is no longer interesting.
The South part of Williamsburg closer to the bridge still retains some of its industrial past, though, and it’s definitely more fun to walk around there, which I do after my annual pilgrimage to my awesome accountant in March. I found Sun and Air, a full-service bike shop + cafe, while strolling the streets. The coffee is pretty good, and the space is amazing. And the mural outside isn’t half bad, either.
