Kobra painted this gigantic Michael Jackson mural in the East Village during his NYC residency in July of 2018, before the HBO documentary Leaving Neverland was released. Since then, Kobra has come out in favor of leaving the mural up on the wall. He believes that the mural is not merely a tribute to the singer; it is also meant to show the transformation that he underwent throughout his life. The mural depicts two MJ’s, one as a child in The Jackson 5 era, while the other shows MJ in his later years. Regardless of the integrity of Michael Jackson, I still think this striking mural in Kobra’s usual technicolor patchwork pattern is a beautiful piece of art.
