Cathedral of Saint John the Divine
I know cathedrals are a dime a dozen in Europe, but in the States they’re not as common (or as old). Luckily in NYC, we have a few really gorgeous ones, and Cathedral of Saint John the Divine is one of my favs. Located in Morningside Heights, it is a bit out of the way but definitely worth a visit. It is technically unfinished and has gone through several radical stylistic changes due to the two World Wars. Originally planned to follow the Byzantine Revival-Romanesque Revival tradition, the design was changed after 1909 to a Gothic Revival design. It is the world’s fifth largest Christian church and maybe(?) the largest Anglican cathedral and church. I’m not religious by any means, but it’s a really peaceful place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
