The Cloisters

The Cloisters

The Met Cloisters was originally conceived to recreate a slice of Medieval Europe in New York. Five French cloistered abbeys were taken apart meticulously, marked for reassembly, and then shipped brick by brick to be reassembled in Fort Tyron Park. It is a GORGEOUS museum and offers a peaceful retreat from the chaos of city life.

It is a bit of a trek for many of us, but it is totally worth it. Honestly, the walk from the subway to the museum already more than makes up for the long subway ride. You meander through the park, where there are rose gardens and footpaths and tall trees that remove any trace of the hustle and bustle from your view. It’s one of my favorite go-to retreats whenever I want some peace and quiet.
